Viviane Robinson is  emeritus distinguished professor at the University of Auckland, specialising in organisational and educational psychology. She has written over 150 academic articles on education and education leadership, and several books too.

This is Viviane’s second appearance on the ERRR podcast. Her first appearance was back in episode 28, during which we spoke about her excellent book, Reduce Change to Increase Improvement which maps out how to have ‘open to learning’ conversations, speak honestly, and effectively and inquire into people’s theories of action when trying to stimulate organisational change.

In this podcast, Viviane and I speak about her new book, Virtuous Educational Leadership: Doing the Right Work the Right Way. This book builds upon Viviane’s earlier work on effective leadership to go a step deeper and ask, ‘What is it that underlies peoples abilities, motivations, and limitations, when it comes to leading effectively.’ And this discussion provides invaluable mental models for better understanding the leader you may be working under, your self as a leader now, and even the leader that you want to become. In this episode Viviane, as always, delivers countless pearls of wisdom.
