Bill Hansberry is a Co-Director of Fullarton House, Assessment Therapy and Teaching (in Adelaide), Hansberry Educational Consulting and Playberry Laser.

Over a 30-year career in education, Bill has taught in both primary and secondary settings, mainly in complex schools. Bill holds a Master’s Degree in School Counselling and has worked as a primary school counsellor and as a behaviour management consultant across all education sectors.

Bill has spent the last 20 years in private practice, supporting students with specific learning difficulties, with a special focus on dyslexia, and mentoring young people who find school challenging. Bill has been active in advocacy and was the recipient of the Code Read Dyslexia Network’s inaugural Sandra Tidswell Award for outstanding dyslexia advocacy. Bill also  advocates widely for evidence-informed literacy teaching.

Bill is a co-developer of the Playberry Tier 3 Multisensory Literacy Program and the more recent Playberry Laser Tier 1-2 Literacy Program, which is used in over 100 schools across Australia. Bill has authored and co-authored four books on Restorative Practices in schools, as well as a parenting book. Bill runs training for schools in behaviour management, parenting and evidence-based literacy and reading intervention.

In this episode we discuss Bill’s fantastic book, A Practical Introduction to Restorative Practice in Schools. I think that this is a must-have book for anyone who finds themselves in the position where they need to have or facilitate challenging conversations, in any context really. In this podcast we go through a number of extremely practical and useful conversational structures and techniques which provide a highly scaffolded roadmap for turning what could be very explosive conversations, into restorative ones.

I hope you love this one as much as I did!
